Kelcy Warren’s Unprecedented Contribution to UTA Sparks Innovation in Resource and Energy Engineering

Texas at Arlington (UTA) alumnus Kelcy Warren has pledged $12 million to the institution. This gift, marking the
largest single donation in UTA’s history, bolsters the university’s burgeoning
resource and energy engineering (REE) program. The initiative aims to address
the pressing need for skilled professional’s adept in managing the state’s energy resources. 

Kelcy Warren, an influential figure in the energy sector and executive chairman of Energy
Transfer LP, has long been a supporter of UTA. His latest contribution is
poised to elevate the university’s College of Engineering by fostering academic
excellence and providing students with unparalleled opportunities. The funds
will support cutting-edge laboratory infrastructure and the creation of
multiple endowed positions that will attract leading scholars in the field. 

One of the significant outcomes of Warren’s generosity is the Kelcy Warren Endowed Professorship in
Resource and Energy Engineering. This position will allow UTA to recruit
top-tier faculty, enhancing the academic environment and ensuring a robust
educational experience for students. Additionally, the establishment of the
Kelcy Warren Career Experience Center will facilitate practical learning
opportunities, such as internships and co-ops, for engineering undergraduates. 

Scheduled for launch in fall 2023, the REE bachelor’s degree program is the first of its kind
in the United States. It aims to equip students with the necessary skills to
tackle contemporary energy challenges, focusing on both conventional and
renewable energy sources. University of Texas at Arlington has emphasized the program’s dual focus on
