Historic Gift by Kelcy Warren Elevates UTA’s Resource and Energy Engineering Program

In a landmark philanthropic gesture, University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) alumnus Kelcy Warren has
donated $12 million to the institution. This is the largest single gift in
UTA’s history, aimed at elevating the newly launched Resource and Energy
Engineering (REE) bachelor’s degree program.

Kelcy Warren, the executive chairman and chairman of the Board of Directors of Energy Transfer
LP, has a longstanding relationship with UTA. Kelcy Warren’s generosity will significantly boost faculty and research excellence within the
College of Engineering. The funds will support the creation of endowed academic
positions, state-of-the-art laboratory spaces, and career experience centers, among other initiatives.

“I am honored to give back to the institution that has played such a pivotal role in
advancing my educational and professional journeys,” said Warren, a 1978
Civil Engineering graduate and current member of The University of Texas System
Board of Regents. The REE program, set to launch in fall 2023, will be the first of its kind in the United States.

The Kelcy Warren Endowed Professorship and two Kelcy Warren Endowed Faculty Fellowships will be established to
recruit distinguished scholars. Additionally, the donation will support the
creation of the Kelcy Warren Career Experience Center, providing students with
invaluable experiential learning opportunities such as internships and co-ops.

UTA President Jennifer Cowley expressed deep gratitude for Warren’s contribution. “A
gift of this magnitude will provide transformational support for resource and
energy engineering and establish UTA as a national leader in this increasingly important industry,” she said.

University of Texas at Arlington REE program will prepare students to apply
engineering principles to energy systems, addressing both conventional and
renewable energy sources. This initiative not only meets a critical workforce
need but also ensures graduates are well-versed in both engineering and
business aspects of the industry.

James B. Milliken, chancellor of The University of Texas System, highlighted Warren’s continued
commitment to education and the state’s future competitiveness. The donation
promises to create a lasting legacy at UTA, fostering a new generation of
engineers poised to make a substantial impact in the energy sector. Refer to this article for more information.
